Fortune Cookie is looking for a Microsoft Technical Architect to join our growing technical team of Experience Architects, Project Managers, Technical Developers and User Interface Designers in our London offices.
The Technical Architect role involves prescribing the technical architecture of web projects in the enterprise. This role is both hands-on and consultative.

Technical Architects work in a pre-sales capacity supporting the sales and account teams on new opportunities, capturing technical requirements and defining the best possible technical solution. This may involve the development of proof of concepts and prototyping.
You may also be required to present a high-level version of your technical approach to the client.
At a project level the Technical Architect plays a key role creating deliverables during the planning phase and is required to be on hand to offer technical consultation to the technical development team throughout a project’s lifetime.
You must be able to work with a heterogeneous team including sales people, business analysts, project managers, information architects, technical developers and user interface developers and be confident in dealing with client representatives from different management levels. In certain cases you may work alongside client teams or 3rd party vendors.
To do this effectively you must have excellent communication skills including written English, verbal presentation and visual representation.
This role also involves taking an active part in the refinement and ongoing development of the technical processes and competencies of the company, and using your experience you will have the opportunity to take an active role in helping to shape Fortune Cookie’s technical strategy going forward.
Skills required
Consultancy Skills
- Experience in assisting sales people to specify, describe and estimate proposed solutions as part of a commercial offer
- Be able to work in a sales team and help deliver presentations in a pitch context
- Be able to prescribe industry regarded “best practice” on proposed technical solutions
- Be able to perform “best of breed” analysis and evaluation on 3rd party products and services
- Be able to identify risks inherent to particular technical solutions
- Be able to identify assumptions and dependencies associated with adopting particular technical solutions or approaches
- Must be able to accurately estimate on delivering technical architecture-related project deliverables, including:
- High-level application design and architecture documentation, during the planning phase of a project
- Database modeling and design documentation, during the planning phase of the project
- System integration and data migration strategies, during the planning phase of the project
- Any relevant security, deployment and hosting documentation, during the planning phase of the project
- Provide an ad-hoc consultative service throughout the lifetime of a project, including formal hand over of technical designs to the development team and assisting the project managers in responding to technical issues raised by the client or internal project team
- Ability to contribute to definitions of business cases for technical projects;
- Be able to break down technical projects into discrete tasks to assist in the creation of a project plan
Technical Skills
- Experience in designing distributed, transactional systems for the web
- Experience in object-oriented analysis and design (OOAD)
- Experience in service-orientated architecture (SOA)
- Be able to prototype and provide proof of concept on technical solutions
- Experience of logical and physical design of enterprise systems for the web
- Relational database schema design, independent of vendor or platform
- UML modeling and design
- Data modeling using XSD and XML
- Experience with data migration strategies
- Knowledge of browser agent capabilities including web browsers, mobile browsers and other devices
- The ability to advise and possibly lead on technical research and development initiatives, on behalf of the company
- Previous commercial development experience in .NET is essential
- Commercial experience of other platforms such as J2EE would be beneficial
- Experience of at least one .Net enterprise content management system such as EPiServer, Immediacy, Sitecore, Ektron or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is highly desirable
- Experience with other CMS, CRM systems, booking engines or other enterprise systems is advantageous
Experience
- Designing and developing web applications within enterprise architectures
- Experience of developing web applications in the travel, tourism and leisure and or the financial services sector would be beneficial
Qualifications
- A university degree from an internationally-recognised institution in a relevant technical discipline (either computer science, physics, chemistry, mathematics or engineering)
- An advanced technical certification from Microsoft such as MCPD in a relevant technology (ASP.Net development)
