'Revolutionary' GPs' search engine makes awards shortlist
25 January 2007
SearchMedica (www.searchmedica.co.uk), 'the GPs' search engine', for which Fortune Cookie designed the interface, has been voted through to the final of the 2007 Revolution Magazine Awards. These annual awards recognize innovation and creativity in the use of digital media to meet client objectives.
A prestigious panel of digital industry experts selected SearchMedica as a finalist in the B2B awards category. Developed using the expertise of GPs and Pulse magazine, the vertical search engine retrieves targeted, qualified medical information from four billion web pages. Its unique proposition is that it collects information from a number of password-protected medical sites (such as the British Medical Journal).
Explains Fortune Cookie Managing Director, Justin Cooke: "CMPMedica asked Fortune Cookie to develop a clear, simple, user-friendly interface for SearchMedica that would deliver a positive user experience and encourage frequent use by GPs. GPs are time poor and need highly specific, accurate information from sources they trust."
"We asked GPs what they need from a professional search engine and created a super group of GPs to test our design. We listened to what they told us and developed the SearchMedica interface to return exactly the type of results GPs need."

While working on the shortlisted project, Fortune Cookie used some of the very latest techniques to measure how GPs responded to the SearchMedica interface. This included tests using eye-tracking technology to measure the unconscious movements of GPs' eyes as they looked at the screen.
The winners of the Revolution Awards 2007 will be announced at a ceremony in London on 16 March 2007.
