Lambeth Council website wins two awards
15th June 2006
Lambeth Council is celebrating the news that its website has scooped two prestigious awards. The website was named as the best council website in England by the Society of Public Information Networks at its annual conference on 19 May.
The website was praised for its compelling user experience by the judges. They said: "This is a great website to use, with clear and simple design and great navigation. Well done all round."
This follows hot on the heels of the council winning the accolade for being the easiest to use website in the country at the British Association of Communicators in Business (CiB) awards earlier this month, beating competition from multinationals such as Shell along the way.
The award from the CiB reflected the way the council has made ease of use a key feature of the site, and it was rigorously tested for usability with a sample group of borough residents.
It was designed to be as accessible as possible for people with disabilities and those without much experience of using the Internet. It has also been awarded the Plain English Crystal Mark for not using council jargon.
The judges stated: "This is a difficult and complex site to get right. You have a site of which you can be justifiably proud."
Fortune Cookie have been Lambeth partners for nearly three years, contributing to the design, usability and accessibility of the site, creating the online brand and playing a key role in the development of the council's Web strategy.
